Knighten Pit Bull Terrier Adult Male for sale in Austin, Texas

Knighten's story
Knighten loves people. This happy-go-lucky loverboy is very social with humans, and he gets all wiggly in their presence, wanting nothing more than to be up in their lap and giving sweet kisses. He's never met a stranger and is ready for affection right away - he rolls right over for belly rubs and loves nothing more than spending time with his human friends. Given his highly affectionate nature, Knighten makes for a great cuddle buddy and will settle down for a calm night of Netflix, but we don't want to underplay his high energy level either. This boy is an athlete and he likes to run and play hard. He loves tennis balls and toys and will play fetch until you get tired. He's also a big fan of playing chase - as long as it involves playing with his people, Knighten's all about it. But most of all, Knighten LOVES the water - kiddie pools, ditches, mud holes, the lake, you name it. Knighten loves water so much he puts his face right in it and goes in circles to feel it push up agains this face. If they made scuba gear for dogs, Knighten would be the first in line. And when he finds a mudhole, he rolls around until he's totally covered. No worries because he loves getting bathed - the more water, the better! Once he's burned that energy off, Knighten is more than happy to chill with his people, looking up at them with adoring affection and then climbing right up to snuggle in nice and close. Knighten's one of those pups that doesn't do well in a shelter environment and is pretty stressed by the experience, but once one of his friends comes to take him out for a walk and he's outside the shelter, he looks up at them with the most grateful eyes, his big tongue hanging out as he transforms into his goofy, happy self. Since he enjoys getting out of his kennel as much as possible, Knighten is also thriving in APA!'s Total Obedience Program. The Total Obedience Program (TOP) is modelled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, Knighten has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help him learn the skills to become the best dog he can be! He is learning skills like walking nicely on leash, sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told 'free,' coming when called and 'Place', which means Knighten will go to a special spot in your home on command. (Knighten is also already fully house and crate-trained) Once Knighten successfully completes all the skills on his training plan he will be considered TOP Dog Ready! Knighten is working hard to become a wonderful companion, and as a part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Knighten after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based: https://vimeo.com/ Knighten would love an active home will will take him on hikes or runs and would likely love to do agility training (this boy is fast!). Throw in a yard with a kiddie pool and lots of toys and Knighten will be one happy camper. Come meet this bundle of fun! Follow Knighten on Instagram @knightens.road.to.adoption
