My story
Van Gogh is not just another picturesque dog. On top of being so very handsome, he's also intelligent and full of spunk and energy. His persona exudes confidence, loyalty, and strength, and he will easily steal your heart away. But, yes, he's also an absolutely stunning-looking dog. Van Gogh's has a real love for exploring, playing and taking long walks. He loves a game of fetch but he's also pretty good at keeping himself entertained. Mostly, he makes a great companion to go adventuring with, and while he has lots of energy, he's also fine with just lounging around with his people. Van Gogh also goes to playgroup with his canine friends at the shelter and could go home with a well-matched doggie sibling. This smart pup loves to learn new things and loves to be challenged, and he's thriving in APA!'s Total Obedience Program (TOP), which is modeled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, he has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help him learn the skills to become the best dog he can be! Van Gogh is learning skills like sit and down, walking nicely on leash, sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told 'free', coming when called and 'place', which means he will go to a specific place in your home on command. Once Van Gogh successfully completes all the skills on his training plan, he will be considered TOP Dog Ready! Van Gogh is working hard to become a wonderful companion, and as a part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with him after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based: Van Gogh would love a home with active people who will include him in their activities, and a backyard to romp in would be a nice bonus. In return, he promises to be your most loyal companion and the best dog he can be. Come meet him!
