Midnight Labrador Retriever Adult Female for sale in Austin, Texas

My story
When Midnight first came to us, she wasn't quite sure how to interact with humans. She would awkwardly accept scritches and stubbornly go along to get along, but she quickly made friends and realized how nice being pet was. She now bursts with enthusiasm and wiggles and flashes that amazing smile when her friends come to visit! Midnight can still be shy with new people, but due to all of the extensive time APA!'s staff and volunteers have spent with her, this brave girl has become very open to making new friends. It also doesn't hurt that these people tend to have her favorite thing in the world: Toys! While Midnight is always super happy to see her favorite people, her eyes really light up when she sees her favorite toys. Midnight LOVES squeaky and rope toys and will have short bursts of high energy where she'll romp around in the sandbox and chase after them. But it doesn't take long for her to get her ya-yas out, and then she's ready to snuggle or nap with her person, laying in their lap and enjoying being pet. We also weren't sure how bright Midnight was because it seemed to take so long to teach her the basic stuff, but it turns out this funny lady was just being stubborn, pretending she didn't know what a 'sit' was. She's actually an expert on all the basics: how to walk politely on a leash, sit and down (sometimes she still pretends she doesn't know this one); she also has advanced recall training and responds to her person's command to 'come' even when distracted or her person is far away. She's fully house-trained and was left home alone on sleepovers with volunteers without any issues. She's happy to keep herself entertained with toys until her people return and was reported to be an easy and low maintenance houseguest. Midnight is also thriving in APA!'s Total Obedience Program (TOP), which is modeled after the AKC's Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test. As a TOP dog, Midnight has a personalized training plan and works with a volunteer trainer several times a week to help her learn skills like sitting calmly when approached by strangers or other dogs, staying in a sit or down until told 'free' and 'place,' which means she will go to a specific place in your home on command. Once Midnight successfully completes all the skills on her training plan, she will be considered TOP Dog Ready! And as part of APA's Total Obedience Program you can work with APA staff to continue to build a training relationship with Midnight after adoption and master all the TOP dog skills together. Check out a video on APA's CGC program, on which the TOP was based: https://vimeo.com/ A great combination of playful and chill, Midnight would love a quieter home with a backyard to romp around in, lots of toys to play with and plenty of cuddle time with her people. If that sounds like yours, come meet this sweet girl!
